The
Annual Telemark Festival will be held at Pebble Creek Ski Area on
Saturday March 10, 2012.
Early Saturday morning the hearty ones will start before the
mountain opens for a Rando Rally.
Two courses with different levels of difficulty are
offered.
In
the traditional course, competitors hike up 1,000 vertical feet,
ski down, hike up again and ski down.
On
the new more challenging course participants will hike up
Green
Canyon
to the saddle, descend to Overrun, cross to the Patrol shack, skin
up the bomb tram track, boot to the top of
Skyline
Peak
, ski the ridge to the saddle, then down green canyon.
The use of this route will depend on avalanche risk.
Meet in the lodge at 7:00am, with the grueling challenge starting
at 8:00. People on
alpine, Randonee, or snowboard equipment are welcome to join in.
The
Classic Terrain Race will be held at 1:00 pm. This race
brings together the skills of telemarking and cross-country
travel. The course is a combination of slalom gates and
uphill gates. A lively post-race party will follow, with an
awards ceremony and draw prizes.
Race registration will be held in the Lodge from 7:00 am to 8:00
and again from 10:30 to 12:30. Registration fee is $25 for a
single event and $30 for both events.
Fee includes a long sleeved T-shirt ready to tie-die, race
entries, and the post race party with music. Everyone is
eligible for prize drawings, but you must be present to win.
Entrants must have a valid lift ticket or season pass for each
day.
For
those not wanting to race, the Festival is a time for telemark
enthusiasts to get together and enjoy the slopes with fellow
telemarkers.
Demos from Black Diamond will be available for participants to
try. |
